Apple apparently doing a 2 for 1 deal on Macbooks (once, at least...) - Kiva - 12-17-2009

my brother recently ordered a refurb unibody macbook for his daughter. He ended up getting 2 boxes delivered - a computer in each. Only 1 charged to the credit card.

Never heard of this before. I guess I'd like to think I'd call them up and let them know / send it back, but, then again, times are tight.... Smile

what would you do?

I would call because I would know in my heart it wasn't right and I would have to live with myself with that on my conscience.

Minor punishment: some heads will roll.
Severe punishment: "You're FIRED!!!"

Call Apple. It's not right to take advantage of a mistake like this.

Good luck.

As I recall, there was another poster on the forum who called to cancel an already-shipped iMac order a couple months ago, as they decided they wanted a different system, and the Apple rep sent them a couple of iPod shuffles. If Apple gave out some shuffles for a changed order, I would think they would certainly give you something for reporting an error like this.

I got a free apple computer.
Even told the guys I got a free computer.
The minimum wage person who received my communication did not blink.
I got a free computer.
Won't go into details about it. After telling them I was essentially getting a free computer, and they showed no interest in that line of thinking, I did not beat my head against the wall for them to keep the computer that I did not pay for. They did not care.

A few months back, I ordered a shuffle as a gift for a friend. I placed the order at 9:30pm or so. The following morning my friend was admitted to the hospital so I called Apple to see if I could have the order rerouted to my address since nobody would be at my friend's to receive it.

The guy was so nice and told me he was going to cancel the original order because it hadn't shipped yet and was just going to place a new order with my address.

Yep, I received 2 shuffles and was only charged for one. I called and explained what had happened and they told me to keep it. Of course, this was a $59 refurb shuffle and not a whole laptop, but the idea is the same. Let Apple know what happened and enjoy a clear conscience.

Call and ask them what they'd like you to do, regardless of whether you can get anything out of it.

definitely call, but good things do happen...

have had a few shipping screw ups over the years, and it seems to boil down to size, price, and product status. was back in NY a few years ago, and ordered three pair of shoes to be shipped back to CA, as not all were in stock at the store we stopped and shopped at. while receipt was correct, the order mis-shipped w/ one wrong size, so I called, and they sent correct pair, and were also supposed to send call tag for wrong size pair. call tag didn't come, so I called back, and gal was kinda irritated that I didn't clue in she was trying to be nice to us and let us keep the wrong pair (which actually happened to be my size), but I was finally successful in getting her to send the call tag. note, the shoes weren't on clearance, but were on a bit of a sale.

a few months later I ordered three pair of baseball cleats for my kid, and when the online tracking system showed them as having been delivered, and they hadn't been, I called a couple of days later w/ a "wazzup", and they resent another shipment via another carrier. two days after the second shipment arrived, the original shipment showed up on our doorstep. I called and asked if they wanted to send a call tag, and they said since all the cleats in the shipment were on clearance, they didn't want them back, though they explained that had any of the cleats not been on clearance, they would have sent a call tag for the entire order. the kid is on his third pair now, w/ three more in still the closet. note, clearance sale.

finally, ordered a big, heavy, office chair that was shipped freight, and then the following day found a better deal (since we're into deals around here) w/ a coupon code that had been provided to a professional organization for an even more expensive chair available through the same distributor. so I called and cancelled the more expensive first order after the second order seemed to go through w/ the discount code according to the email confirmation, and in the call was told the first order was stopped in time. after giant boxes showed up on back to back days, I called the distributor, and the owner eventually called me back, and put me in touch w/ the shipment fulfillment center w/ whom he said the problem was with as his paperwork showed the first order having been cancelled before their order sheet was transmitted to the fulfillment center. the fulfillment center said they'd look into it and get back to me w/in a few days, then when they hadn't, I tried back several times until I finally got ahold of someone high enough up the food chain to figure things out, and he asked if I was using either of the chairs. I told him "yes, I assembled one of them, the other is still in the box waiting..." then he asked if I liked the chair, to which I replied, "heck, yeah, it's totally cool..." he said, "great, go ahead and keep the other one, too, then!"... turns out the cost of return shipping on something that big and heavy, and dealing w/ the paperwork was more hassle than they wanted to endure for what the guy acknowledged was their mistake for having shipped an order that had been marked as cancelled. note, shipped freight, and catching people's mistakes.

so call Apple, and get suggest a 32GB iPod Touch... but first call the shipper and get some info from them if possible as to order number(s) and whatever else may not show on the packing slips or shipping labels. IOW, try to find out what sort of goof was made first, so Apple (maybe) thinks you were upset and/or put out by having to figure out their mistake... and ask for a call tag, don't initially volunteer to take it somewhere for return shipping, but eventually get around to maybe dropping it off at the Apple store and picking up that Pod as the happy ending... good luck
