Hackintosh Assistance - prof - 05-05-2010 I managed to successfully install 10.6 and then update to 10.6.3 on an Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R/Q9550 (overclocked to 3.6)/EVGA 9800 GT (512) using the guide from http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/. Using iBoot and Multibeast was pretty easy and I was surprised that it worked because the guide was intended for newer P55 mobos with 1156 processors. Instead of installing one of the included P55 profiles I chose the easybeast option which installed the bare minimum kexts. It booted up fine but I had no sound so I then used Multibeast to install the neccessary audio kext. So I'm up and running now but I'm wondering if there's any other kexts I need to install? I'm using the iStat widget to monitor CPU temps and it seems to be indicating idle temps about 10 degrees higher (celsius) than when I originally tested the overclock in Windows XP. Is this normal?? Also my CPU info in "About This Mac" is wrong. How do I correct that?? I'd appreciate any tips or assistance from hackintoshers here to help complete this project. TIA, prof Re: Hackintosh Assistance - Panopticon - 05-05-2010 I'd check over @ insanelymac.com. There are hundreds of posts regarding 10.6 on the GA-EP45-UD3 mobos. Start here: http://www.insanelymac.com/search.php?cx=001515782708938219747%3A_l4ohnzhaku&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=GA+EP45-UD3#839 I believe you'll get better results using scripts assembled for the EP45 vs trying to mod P55 material. my fauxMacPRO: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L {5.1 audio & gigabit net} Core 2 Quad Q8200 8GB RAM {4 x 2GB PC2-6400} 3x 1TB Samsung F1 SATA-II HDs nVidia 9400GT-512 Video LG 22X SATA DVD Burner w/ LightScribe FireWire800 {Lucent FW800/400} BlueTooth Re: Hackintosh Assistance - prof - 05-05-2010 I did check over there Pan. I couldn't find anything as straightforward as this install was. And I could be mistaken but I believe the basic stuff installed has both mobo's in common. Impressive that you've got FW800 running on yours. What card are you using?? Also, are you running 10.6.3?? Thanks for the reply, prof Re: Hackintosh Assistance - Panopticon - 05-05-2010 What card are you using?? a {$15 on fleabay} Dynex PCIe DX-PCI2PF {Lucent chipset, native support} looks identical to this one for $68 from our forum host: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Aaxeon/FWB68300/ Also, are you running 10.6.3?? nope, 10.6.2. Just haven't had the time to run the updater. btw, BT is one of those "buck on fleabay", teeny USB plug-ins with a Broadcom chipset. Re: Hackintosh Assistance - AllGold - 05-05-2010 Use Activity Monitor and enable the Window > Floating CPU Window to watch your processor usage. It might explain your CPU temps if something is keeping the CPU busy (like Spotlight). If the temp is a problem you could back it down to 3.4 and still have it faster than any real Mac Pro. ![]() Re: Hackintosh Assistance - Dick Moore - 05-05-2010 prof -- also check at www.efixusers.com for lots of info and guides. You can fix the processor info in smbios.plist using TextEdit so that it shows correctly (this is largely a "cosmetic" problem), but be sure to check and see what the other info is in System Profiler. If the CPU detection is dead wrong, it could affect installs of various things. iStat has a new version that is supposed to report temps more correctly, but it uses a different sensor set in the chip than the Win utilities do, which could account for the differences you're seeing. This is a particular issue with quad core CPUs. Asere's v1.1.9 bootloader, based on Chameleon, does detect CPUs and memory correctly, which is a big help -- see it at efixusers. There is also a DSDT patched for your mainboard there as well, which is good to have. |
