Could there be software intruders lurking about your machine? Do you understand every shareware program you install? Are you worried about hackers or email Trojans being installed without your knowledge? It's not uncommon for people to activate administration applications and forget to remove or turn off, even if your aware of these programs existence on the computer you can easily be reminded if its running or not. So, if you bought a used computer, wouldn't an erase & install be cheaper than buying software like MacScan? Are there actual, proven-working keystroke loggers that run in OSX? Spyware? There's unix level one called KTrace, it records it's calls to the kernel, and thus you can see the keystrokes, but it's in a lot of mess. I had one of my security nut friends use it on me, very annoyed, but it did get me to change my password. Re: MacScan: FUD or real threats? - Carm - 04-21-2006 Keystroke loggers, for OS X, yes. They exist. Spyware, NO, unless you consider the Keystroke logger "spyware", the keystroke loggers need authentication to install. I did find some stuff about a couple of the trojans: they generally seem to be disguised as kracks for pirated software, so if you don't warez, you'll never run into 'em. The keyloggers look like commercial or shareware apps. And there was some VNC-like screensharing app that's also on the malware list, too, for who knows what reason... |
