Buying RAM - Greg the dogsitter - 04-21-2006 Do I buy from OWC, 'cause they provide this forum? Do I buy from DataMem, 'cause BGnR says it's the best? Do I buy from SmallDog, because of the wuppies? Do I buy from NewEgg, 'cause they're the cheapest? Do I buy from MicroCenter, because it's a good computer-geek store? ;-) Re: Buying RAM - jdc - 04-21-2006 buy from OWC this time, datamem next time, smalldog, the next, etc, etc Re: Buying RAM - PeterB - 04-21-2006 Crosspost from the other side: ... if it were me, I would go with whatever is cheapest from a reputable dealer. Who is "reputable" of course depends on who you talk to, but I've had good experience with: Datamem, OWC, the major retailers, and... Omni. Some people would disagree with me, especially about Omni. I've also used 1800memory and they've been fine too for me, but many people have had serious problems with them. Re: Buying RAM - 3d - 04-21-2006 Support OWC. Buy from them. If they're not the cheapest,, what are you saving by ordering from another reputable company? Five bucks? I recently bought 2 gigs of RAM from OWC. Fast shipment, solid packaging, and you get a warm fuzzy tingly feeling inside for supporting a decent company. If it was a TWENTY dollar difference between OWC and the next cheapest "reputable" company then that's a different story... 20bucks is my limit. I may be loyal, but I'm not stupid. Re: Buying RAM - BigGuynRusty - 04-21-2006 Datamem, they will haggle price, best warranty, they will cross-ship overnight, for free. http://www.datamem.com/ I have saved much more than five bucks. BGnR Re: Buying RAM - Guitarman - 04-21-2006 I always buy from OWC. That's why I haven't been banned yet. ![]() Re: Buying RAM - Greg the dogsitter - 04-21-2006 3d Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Support OWC. It's not just a matter of money, and the price difference could be around $40. But there are other factors to consider. Re: Buying RAM - lemmingboy - 04-21-2006 Buy from OWC. I would have said that before they started this forum. Alot of times they're the cheapest and when they're not it's worth the extra $10 for the piece of mind. For all purchases I've made with OWC, I've had absolutlely no problems and I'm convinced that if I did they would make it right quickly. Not too many companies I'm willing to say that about. -Shawn Re: Buying RAM - Kiva - 04-21-2006 OWC first, then datamem if the price is significantly cheaper.. kiva Re: Buying RAM - 3d - 04-21-2006 Greg the dogsitter Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's not just a matter of money, and the price > difference could be around $40. But there are > other factors to consider. Are you crazy?! You wanna get banned from here?? LOL BUY FROM OWC! But seriously, $40 difference is alot... Same exact brand of RAM? Are we talking about a reputable company? Or some schmoe on eBay? We've publicly talked about OWC before in the forum right? Prices are facts. What's with all the drama? Who, What, Where, When, and How much? Spill the beans. Then shoot Larry a private eMail. Maybe he can price match for you? He's not the owner... but prices on RAM does fluctuate alot. I'm sure there can be something done. If i was buying $250 of RAM. I'd overlook a $20 price difference. If i was buying $80 of RAM. A $20 difference is a deal breaker. Common sense IMO. |
