Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - PeterB - 04-21-2006 I'm now getting crashes out consistently in Camino with this page: http://www.bostonchannel.com ... it crashes out after loading almost all the page-- I think it may be crashing when it gets to the point of playing the front page video. (Safari plays it fine, so it's a problem specifically with Camino, which still remains as my preferred browser...) I did two things which might have contributed to this: 1) Cache/system cleanout with Onyx 2) Installed latest version of Flash and maybe something else or a few something elses, in an attempt to get some things to play that weren't doing so Of these two, I'm inclined to believe the problem is #2... The question is, how do I downgrade the version of Flash? It seems they don't offer the previous installers anywhere? Re: Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - Seacrest - 04-21-2006 What? You crashed your El Camino? Re: Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - PeterB - 04-21-2006 Yup, confirmed -- it's the Flash that's the problem. If I uninstall it using their uninstaller, then reinstall it (using their newest version, which is a public beta), then it works ONCE, then if I quit out of Camino and restart, and load the page again, it crashes Camino out. I'll check the Camino webpages, and see if they have a fix for this... but better would be able to downgrade to an earlier version of Flash... crap software. Re: Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - PeterB - 04-21-2006 Hmmm... OK, I think I've got it partially figured it out: 1) In the prefs, having "Block web advertising" (under Web Features > Annoyance Blocking) checked, causes crashes if this version of Flash is installed 2) Trashing the pluginreg.dat file seems to have helped 3) Unfortunately, having the "Block web advertising" unchecked means that I get some annoying stuff come up. So... if I can find the old installer, I would just as soon go back... Re: Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - Zoidberg - 04-22-2006 Glad we could help. ![]() Re: Oh crap, what did I just do to Camino? - PeterB - 04-22-2006 Zoid, I seem to have completely fixed it by basically copying back a whole bunch of stuff from a backup (e.g., reverting to the previous version). But boy, what a pain... all I can say is, don't use Flash software labelled as "beta" ! |
