De-Embedding images in Illustrator CS? - Mac1337 - 04-21-2006

I have an Illustrator CS 1 document with a number of placed images. These are "embedded". Is there a way to de-embed them without having to replace, resize and re-position each one. I still have the original placed files of coarse. Also I can't seem to find the preference to turn off automatic embedding.

Thanks in advance,
-Leet

when placing the files originally maker sure the "link" box is checked

i just tried this

placed an image without the link box checked - reduced it and then masked it

selected the image then hit "relink" in the links palette and then checked the "link" button when importing the same imate

its now linked rather than embedded and is in the exact same spot as before
