DEAL: Polk R50 Speakers @ Outpost - Panopticon - 04-22-2006

Caveat: Shipping can cost $30-50 on a pair of these!

A pair shipped (DC) costs $184.70. Not bad as Polk shows a list price of $640 a pair (which no one should ever pay)! http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/r50/

Re: DEAL: Polk R50 Speakers @ Outpost - Harry in MI - 04-22-2006

I paid almost exactly the same amount for these shipped to Michigan last July.

I guess I could have waited as they are still in the box awaiting completion of my poor mans home theater.

I also got this deal last year. Came out to just below $200 for the pair, shipped. They're great, and they run for something like $600 retail.

And Harry, they sat in my storage shed for six months while I got the rest of my own theater stuff together... ;-)

Will,

What other speakers do you have in your system?

I picked up a PSW10 Polk (10") Subwoofer from J&R (about $125.00 to the door), and have a older Infinity center channel speaker.

I also have some small Infinity wall mountable "mini" speakers I could use as rear surround maybe.

Should I get a pair or two of the R15 Bookshelf's for side and rear sorrounds?

Harry in MI, shame you didn't think of the R15's last week! They were on sale @ Outpost for $50/pr. http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/84190/84190#msg-84190

I grabbed a pair, $61 shipped. Really nice rear channel speakers :oo

I have these, I paid a little more but still got a good deal. They sound very good. Ideally I would like some more bass out of them, but I don't have a sub.

I should add, I have 90W running to each. They get very loud with no distortion and awesome clarity.

Re: DEAL: Polk R50 Speakers @ Outpost - Will Collier - 04-23-2006

Harry, I have a mishmash system. The Polk R50's are the 'mains,' I have a Wharfedale center channel (can't recall the model off-hand), and a couple of old Bose AM-5's for the rear speakers. When I get motivated I'll add a proper subwoofer. Technically the Bose subwoofer is connected, but its purpose is just as a passthrough. It's only getting rear channel bass signal, so it basically doesn't count.

Still, it all sounds just fine to me, and no one has yet said, "I find your lack of bass disturbing..."
