How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - deckeda - 07-02-2010 Some of you in particular have upgraded from earlier iPhones. Is the antenna on the new one an issue for you? Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Mini 9 - 07-02-2010 You need a voting option for "I don't have an iPhone"!!! oh, the NERVE of some people! hrfmff ![]() Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Lux Interior - 07-02-2010 Not having an iPhone is not an option! Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Ken Sp. - 07-02-2010 My iPhone 4 get MUCH better reception that any of my previous 3 iPhones. Most real tests show better overall reception, and it is a shame the media is making so much of what the signal bars say. Here was my post on this on the early iPhone day http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,958810,958810#msg-958810 It appears this is mostly the case. Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - OWC Jamie - 07-02-2010 Ken, I'm glad yours is working well - mine certainly is not. Just trying to make a call outside our office, within line of sight of the tower, results in a choppy, very hard to understand connection. My old 3G was crystal clear. And this is with 5 bars of signal strength to boot... Interestingly enough my phone indicates GPRS coverage instead of Edge or 3G about a half mile from OWC, again, within sight of a tower..... I actually have to go to the Apple store later today, and I'm going to see what they find when testing it. Of course I can do the disappearing signal bar trick at will..... just touch the 2 black bars at the bottom edge band of your phone at the same time.... signal drops from 5 bars to 1 bar or no service in less than a minute. Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Fritz - 07-02-2010 just remember Jamie. You'll be going up against a genius! nudge, nudge, wink, wink Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Carnos Jax - 07-02-2010 Sounds like you got a lemon Jamie. Though my initial thoughts were you're in a weak signal area. Clearly that isn't the case (due to your experiences with the previous model and the fact that the tower is close). I'm in an area where signal strength is not great. But my new phone has fewer problems than my old one. What's more, I can not for the life of me reproduce the 'disappearing signal bar trick' at all (hell I've even tried putting a conductor to bridge the gaps...of course I'm sure I can do it if I'm in an area with a very weak signal to begin with but I haven't been able to test that scenario). Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - Ken Sp. - 07-02-2010 Jamie---is it the OWC lead lined rooms and the tin foil hat? I forgot to mention that I am using the Bumper case. There are reports that Scotch tape over the spot works, but in you case, maybe Scotch Whiskey instead of Scotch Tape :-) Yea-sound like something is amiss, but I m sure that the Genius will initially think you are just one of the ones complaining about the perceived signal problem. You know, just like taking your car to the mechanic,it will be fine at the Apple Store. Make sure you take some screen shots with GPRS and use gMaps to show your location and lack of signal. Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - OWC Jamie - 07-02-2010 I'm actually quite interested to see what happens with it at the store, as I'm sure they have a microcell or two in the building to help alleviate the "perceived" problem ![]() Re: How's your iPhone 4 signal reception? - deckeda - 07-02-2010 Mini 9 wrote: Methinks you missed the part where the question was only relevant to those who have the item in question? I asked because I don't have one either and was interested in a few data points here. |
