Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Grumpyguy - 07-04-2010 Trying to pull over settings from my tower to my Mac mini. It brings over apps but not their serial numbers. Also no system preferences like mail settings were carries over either. What gives? Any suggestions? Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Doc - 07-04-2010 What specific steps and options did you take/select when using the MA? What method of connecting the two Macs did you use? Did you opt to migrate your old user account? What model tower? What OS is installed on the tower? (Is that the G5 in your sig?) What model Mini is it? What OS is installed on the Mini? Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - modelamac - 07-04-2010 That's precisely why I FIRST clean up the source drive, then clone it to the new Mac. Nothing is missed, no permissions problems, all settings and itty-bitty parts are in place. No updates to do. Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Grumpyguy - 07-04-2010 From my G5 Checked off apps, files, and user accounts Using an Ethernet connection Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Grumpyguy - 07-04-2010 Brand new mini running 10.6 Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Doc - 07-04-2010 Using Ethernet, network settings don't all come over... The app pref's, mail settings, etc. should have come over, but some of it will only be available when logged in under your old user account. Are you logged in under a new user account or under the old (migrated) user account on the Mini? Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Grumpyguy - 07-04-2010 Thanks doc let me check success at last! - Grumpyguy - 07-04-2010 Ended erasing the Mini's hard drive, reinstalling OS X, and then once again attempted the transfer of files at the beginning of the Mini's/OS X intro screen. Took three hours and change, but it brought over all my apps, serial numbers, and preferences! Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Now comes the fun part, plugging in the monitors, printers, external drives and gaining a lot of room on the desk. Re: Migration Assistant fails to pull over settings - Speedy - 07-05-2010 I had a similar problem awhile back. I ended up installing the OS, then not running MA except for my network settings. Then I ran software update. After that I was able to use MA to bring over everything else. Create a new user that you can later delete on first start up before importing your info. |
