iApp Programming Classes.. for Teens ?
#1
My 13 year old son is 'at odds' for the Summer.... BSA summer camp is planned, but I'm looking for a kind of 'seminal moment' opportunity. When I was 13, I took a BASIC programming summer school class at the local public high school (yes, back in the pre budget cut days of the 1970's). The work I did in that class (developed a flight simulator program with a friend) was probably THE main driver for the rest of my life's interests and career.

So I'm looking to get my son the same spark. And since iApps are 'the thing', I'd love to find some sort of class that will help him with his interests. While a physical class in the Cleveland area would be best, I just can't find any of 'em. Is anyone aware of an online resource for teens ?

If he has some proficiency in C or C++, he may find one or more of the iTunes U courses helpful.

This course material and lecturer is pretty good.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/deve...d395605774
It covers the fundamentals of the iOS API and Objective C. Like the rest of the iTunes U courses from Stanford, it requires previous programming experience.

The original way of (third-party) programming for iPhone was to make apps using HTML+CSS+JavaScript. He may find that method more accessible depending on his previous experience.

We're signing him up for an XBOX programming class. It's a small exposure to C# with a drag & drop tool, and he gets a game he can play at home and show off to his buddies. Once I get him bitten by the bug, I'll have to feed it some more. He's very excited about the possibilities.

Better to study simple languages like C# http://csharp.net-informations.com , because if you start languages like c++ , it is very difficult for study first.

Jeggar.
