hi! we found a car that appears to be just what we want for the right price in mission viejo. we’re a thousand or so miles away, so a personal test drive and inspection will be challenging. the googles aren’t helpful. we’d appreciate any recommendations on an outfit that does such work. almost any service in the general area will do.

Might help to know what type of car, and what you're expecting as a report. Search "pre-purchase vehicle inspection" as a start.

Usually you can get a dealer to do a pre-purchase inspection or you can find a local car shop, particularly something that specializes in that brand.

The owner would probably need to drive it over.
