Thanks Fritz;
Zero permanent residents since 1930!
The islands of the North Atlantic are beautiful but not 'human friendly'
for habitation. A good thing.
Take people away and let nature do its thing.

Makes for happy sheep too!

Lots of images @ DDG. https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffcm&q=St.+Kilda&iax=images&ia=images

I've read a lot about St. Kilda, and The Evacuation.
Sad story... decline in population for a century, then WWI was really the death-knell for St. Kilda. All the young men left, and the population nose dived from disease. Though the article I read didn't say specifically, I suspect it was the 1918 Flu.
Finally, they petitioned the government to evacuate the island and all the residents, and in 1930, they all packed up for the last time, and more than 1000 years of inhabitation came to an end.

It's a beautiful island... There was talk I read of (I can't open the link here at work for some reason, that might mention this) of possibly renovating some of the homes enough to allow overnight visitors under strict control.

the article (when you get in) does discuss the fact that the homes have been reno'd, but nothing about AirBnB yet.
