Except for simple taxes, tools like TurboTax will cost you more than usual a competent accountant.
THIS is why I'm never using Turbotax or any other Intuit product again

I get by fine with the $50 package (but they wormed me out of an extra $25 this year). They used to do the county and city forms for me as well, but a couple years ago they stopped that and just give me blank forms. That sucks. Seems like it would be simple for the IRS to provide software for free, but that will never happen thanks to the lobbyists.

I'm not talking about the purchase price. I've run my taxes though it and had an account do it. Accountant charged me $1k, but they saved me 10x that over TurboTax.

People with 1099's are great candidates for a good accountant.

For 2020 I entered "0" for spouse and it went through (after being rejected for using the actual #). This year I tries all permutations: Me: AGI Spouse: AGI - REJECETED! Me: AGI Spouse: Zero - REJECETED! Me: Zero Spouse: AGI - REJECETED! Me: Zero Spouse: Zero - REJECETED! |
