allow me to extol the virtues of Onyx

Onyx, if ya dunno, is a simple but useful utility that has saved much aggravation in my experience.

This am, for some reason, my media server wouldn't play nothin, music or video.
I use 2 different apps, Emby & JellyFin (which are forks of each other ... ish).
Long story why.
Neither would play anything.

I ran Disk 1st Aid on my dd boot drive, the boot drive on the networked server and the drives therein.  No change.

I ran Onyx on the networked server (MacPro3,1 on High Sierra).
Restarted, happy servers both.

Well, maybe it was the restart that solved the issue, not Onyx... Did you restart after Disk Fist Aid?

But yeah, I like Onyx, I usually install it on all my Macs and use to clean cache and other weird crap and it seems to make the system faster.

Amazing that it is free.

Onyx has a huge list of options, and if not careful, one could bork their OS significantly.

What did you have Onyx to fix whatever was wrong?

I use it from time to time to clear caches, which can be troublesome in the before and after, and to rebuild Launch Services Database.

It's easier than tossing .plists or using the command line.

At my previous job I had an action in Self Service for staff to click on called something like Fix XYZ issues.  All it did was force a restart.  Worked 95% of the time.  We also added an inventory item to tell us days since last reboot.  Let me tell you, most people who said they had restarted were liars.
