Surfs Up

even if you don't think much of the Beach Boys or Brian (I'd find it hard to believe, but ...)

LOVE the Beach Boys, but I was expecting something more like:

Or maybe

Or maybe even

The '40s woodies are de rigueur, they're pretentious, to my eye.

But Beach Boy tunes are always welcome.

I've always enjoyed that song. It was used in a favorite surf movie of the time, "Five Summer Stories".

even though Brian is not much involved with the LP Surfs Up, it's one of my faves of theirs.

I have never been a Beach Boys fan, but recently have gained a lot of respect for Wilson as a songwriter. Didn't think much of this piece at first, but those vocal harmonies are amazing. The layering of all the tracks is incredible in a live performance.

This Good Vibrations is from the same show I think - it takes 30 people on stage to reproduce this...

read about the production. very interesting.
my rnr buddies at the time thought they were nuthin'.
Brian was quite brilliant in his mastery. Session players mostly agreed.
And they'd played with everyone and anyone from the mid 50s to mide 70s.

His voice sounds a bit harsh compared to his prime, but it is nice to see Brian receive recognition in front of an appreciative audience for his wonderful work.
