I've had discussions with my preventive cardiology clinic doctor about it, the guidelines are kind of weird. I lot of the risks were from when initially starting to take the aspirin, so they recommend against it for new patients. But for those like me who had already been taking it, they feel that if you're still alive, you made it through the riskiest part, and it's OK to continue to take it, since there are still benefits.
