Ready to order a refurb MBP, and I have decided on the 15" i5 model. I wanted to check here first to see if anyone has had any problems with the new version of the MBP. New i5 chip and new graphics card is a major update, but it sounds wicked fast!
My last MBP, which I recently sold on CL, was one of those models that suffered from the faulty Nvidia cards. I never had a problem with it, but it was always one of those nagging issues that ticks you off after spending that much money on a computer...
TIA.

i5 is fasater than C2d; video card is more future-proof.

I also have a C2D with the faulty Nvidia card which was replaced by Apple under their extended warranty program for that known fault. It's now my wife's (replacing a PB G4). I bought a refurb i7 15" with the hi-res screen because I wanted matte. Saved $300 from list and it looks new except for the usual Apple refurb box. It's definitely faster in all respects but I do get the spinning beachball every now and then. The old MBP has a 7200 HD and seems to have less beachballs (same size 4GB RAM). I have an external OWC "on-the-go" with a 500GB Seagate Momentus 7200 so I'm thinking of swapping that for the i7 stock 5400 and see if that does anything.

I got a 15" i5 last week, and I'm loving it. It's much speedier than my Core Duo Macbook (2006?) and I get very few beachballs. I suppose having 4gb of ram helps. It also runs Windows 7 in VMWare Fusion like a charm, and I've already used the firewire 800 port for a speedy backup. I do think I could cook an egg if I flipped it over, though, and maybe that should be a feature.
The one thing that is hard to get used to is the trackpad -- I really like the tap-to-click feature, but it doesn't seem to work right at the edges. That, combined with the fact that the keyboard is a bit farther from the trackpad than on my macbook has meant that a number of times I've tap-tap-tapped with nothing happening.
Get it.

edit: forgot to mention that it was a bit pricey, once I figured in the extras I had to get (Applecare, extra power cord, different video cords, new sleeve, etc.). I think it was worth it.

I have the 15" i5, got it about two weeks after it was released. Love it - coming from a 12" PB G4, I was originally going to get a 13" and expend the rest of the budget on accessories, but was persuaded to splurge for the bigger machine. Well worth it.
