Best place to buy a ATX PC power supply?
#1
Find myself in needing to replace a PC power supply in order to get the data of the XP hard drive inside imported into a NEW Windows 7 PC. Apparently "Windows Easy Transfer" won't work by simply putting the old internal hard drive in a case and attaching it to the new PC (like a Mac does...).

The original P/S is a Bestec ATX-300-12Z and the computer model is a HP Pavillion. P/S is HP p/n: 51880129.

Can I get just any ATX 300 watt or better power supply, or do I need to get an exact replacement part.

I was looking at Amazon and the matches there seem to be in the $45-55 range. Others run $25-30. I have PRIME so free fast shipping would be nice if I can find something at Amazon. Also looked at Newegg, but was lost in all the options.

Don't need this to last forever... just long enough to transfer the data to the new machine.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Is the Pavillion part number 5188-0129 or is that their part number for the power supply. Some of the results that came up are confusing (sort of typical for HP).

If you can find one at Amazon that has the right number and looks to have the same connectors, order the cheapest one from a company that will answer the toll free number on the weekend and does not have too many bad reviews.

Thanks, FHM.

That was the part number for the HP power supply in question.

It appears this one has very specific connectors. I think ATX-300-12ZCDR is the most specific Bestec model for my particular p/s.

was wondering if there was an equivalent to monoprice (for cables) for power supplies.

will follow your suggestion and just go with the one with the best reviews.
