McLelland had publicly stated that he was carrying a gun even while walking his dog, and that his wife had a gun as well, and that his combat training and gun would mean he was prepared for the possibility of being attacked.
SO while this is a tragedy for sure, the man had announced that he felt he was protected -- but sadly his training and gun did not prevent his death.
