I know that behind every asshat there’s at least the possibility of a real human being yearning to break free. It’s the simplistic view that continuously corrupts ideals, pragmatism, discussion.

Yes the Nazi Party was socialist, but the converse has pretty much never been true. Yes the United States has a horrible record of its own flavor of imperialism, especially with covert wars that repeatedly backfired in very costly ways.

That last point was a favorite of max’s I wish he could have held in some kind of perspective relative to whatever the topic was about. But it wasn’t meant to be. If there’s anything an online forum desperately needs, it’s people who can gamely manage to effing Stay On Topic.
