Not lately, best deal I ever got was shortly after 9-11, two round trip tickets to Seattle from DC for $300 something around xmas. Nobody was too keen on taking to the skies at that time.

I had the same experience for 8-9 months after 9/11: cheapest fares I've ever gotten to the Midwest, including the holiday ones. I just booked a flight for mid-January, and out of curiosity, I looked to see what I would have to fork out as a late-booking Xmess traveler. Flights on the dates you'd need in order to be at your destination on the 24th or 25th were in the $700 range. Painful.

One of my coworkers used to say "Dark meat is the joint" but she wasn't talking about bird meat.
