I was reading this NYT article (gifted), and got to this snippet:
The exchange ended with Mr. Trump telling Mr. Duffy that he had to hire people from M.I.T. as air traffic controllers. These air traffic controllers need to be “geniuses,” he said.
OMFG! That would be the last person who should be doing ATC!
You need to be smart, sure. But you need to be focused doing a very stressful job day after day.
It takes a certain kind of person.
But not a genius.
I do (well, did) nuclear safety analysis. It can get rote & repetitive. I have an MS in NucE. I am not a genius.
We hired an MS from MIT and I said that she would not last a year doing what we do. Not because it was too hard, but that she was going to be bored.
She left after 8 months.
