There is something that looks kind of like a CUDA button on the logic board between the video out and the USB port next to it on this version/rev of Mini. This is the one with one DIMM socket.
I'm going to try setting up a new account on the machine but I've already tried connecting to the macbook via ethernet and it seems like the macbook can see the mini just fine but the mini can see the macbook but not access it. If a new account does fix this somehow will my dad / I have to migrate everything of his to the new account or would that be enough of a clue to come back and fix this account? Thanks for all the great input! [Edit] I created a new Admin account and it has all the same issues so I guess that is pointing to a dead/crippled port? Time to shop around for a new wireless router and a wireless USB adapter for the mini!

When connecting directly to the modem, you have to unplug the power cord to the modem when you want to switch computers. This has to be done. It essentially makes the modem forget what it was connected to. It will only recognize/authorize one computer at a time to connect. Unplugging the power cord, making the computer switch, then powering up the modem should work.

..... I can't believe I spent the better part of my day fighting this and the solution was so simple.... Verified and it works! Comcastic!
Comcast cable and Motorola Surfboard modem. Thanks! I never even thought of that, it must not be true of all cable modems because I swap computers and routers fairly often at home in ATL without even resetting the modem without so much as a hiccup. At least my dad is getting a better router and a new mouse out of the deal!

Yea! A happy ending!

Also, not in this case, but sometimes specific Ethernet jacks dislike specific wires that WILL work on other ports.... So sometimes trying a completely new wire is helpful.
