Apple says any Mac manufactured after June 2002 had support for large drives http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2544. Early G4 iMacs were introduced in Jan 2002 (15" 700/800 mhz) are good to 128gb but there was also an 800/17" that came out in July 02 that supported large drives. http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/index.shtml

There is also talk that some of the 15" 800's unofficially supported large drives and I have one that does.

I've got a 15" 700 with a large drive in it. No sweat.

On the other hand, I have one that doesn't, so plainly YMMV.

He was asking specifically about the 17" - but I'm not sure which revision

Everymac shows the 17"/1.25 with a 167 MHz bus speed - couldn't remember if the bus speed
(100 vs 167) made a difference in the ability to handle bigger drives

The 17/1.25 was introduced in September of 03 so it should be fine. http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/17in-imac...5-ghz.html

G4 iMacs

* 15" iMac G4/700 & 800 (1/02)
* 17" iMac G4/800 MHz (7/02)
* 15" iMac G4/800 MHz (2/03)
* 17 iMac G4/1 GHz (2/03)
* 15" iMac G4/1 GHz (9/03)
* 17" iMac G4/1.25 GHz (9/03)
* 20" iMac G4/1.25 GHz (11/03)

Lurker??

Screw you! hahah!

Yeah, It was my question. I figured I was fine.. Thanks guys.

What would you think the sell value on one of these suckers would be if I maxed out the RAM and threw a 250gigger in there?

I was thinking around 450-500, but apparently there's some dude selling one on ebay for 899 firm. And the one I have is in MINT shape, not yellowed at all, and even has the spheroid speakers....

Now, IF you also had the iSub from HP you would have a nice package . . . I would be surprised if you can get the 450-500, even if you had the iSub, but if you eBay it, who knows . . . maybe more.

I have the 15"/1GHz and it's been chugging along just fine.
