Rereading the Riverworld series
#1
I read this series by Phillip José Farmer in the early 80s & enjoyed it. It's a great premise: everyone who ever lived on Earth up to 2008 is resurrected along the banks of an endless river. The title of the 1st book is one of my all time favorites: To Your Scattered Bodies Go.

I've been rereading it on my iPod & am amazed at how wordy & pontificating this guy is. At least this time I was able to skip over all of his BS in order to keep the story moving along without fear of missing something vital.

I'm on the 4th book now & am in no hurry to finish because of all the crap I'll have to wade through.

I never read the Riverworld books, but since watching the two different TV movie treatments, I've thought about it.

I never could get into a couple other Phillip José Farmer books for the same reasons you mention.. he belabors the bejeezes out things.

Farmer's not all that wordy.

Read a book by an author with a decent IQ, suffer the consequences.

...

Edit: Removed the joke that I misquoted.

Opinions, of course, are like.... well, you know.

I find Farmer to have been eloquent rather than wordy.

An author that spews 'verbiage' is one who is wordy. Farmer liked to explain, and illuminate.

I also have been re-reading the Riverworld series & am on book 3. Was doing Flint's 1632 series (& Gazette offspring) but got sidetracked when I received Farmer's books.

Instead of an iPod, I've been using a palm T5.
