Brother Toner replacement MFC 7820N
#1
I replaced the toner in the Brother printer for the first time (I was getting "toner low" message, shook if a few times, kept going but eventually I got the Replace Toner message)

Now I put in a new Brother toner cartridge, it prints fine, but the Printer still thinks the toner has never been replaced. Huh? is there a reset somewhere?

and a related question: there is a ghost image located about 3" below the main image.

Was it a genuine brother toner cartridge, or a possibly refilled cartridge.

I've never refilled one, but I did some reading about what's involved, and in addition to filling it with toner, there are some gears and a lever that move as each page is printed and need to be reset to look like a new cartridge.

it was a brand new, sealed, genuine cartridge. I picked up 3 cartridges for $51 (IIRC) from 1saleaday about 2 years ago.

Try unplugging the printer. I have not had the toner cart issue that you have, but I have had other weird messages and the plug thing always worked

I picked up those same cartridges... they were crap. I don't think they were actually Brother, but gray market. I had trouble with them too.

But, to reset the machine for toner... this is what you do... open the front cover, press option, press *00.

That should take care of it.

Ghosting.... that will probably go away with time, but is a sure sign to me that the toners were not of high quality.
