Production of the iPad 3 Retina Display Remains a Challenge

Digitimes reports that the production of the next generation iPad's high resolution Retina Display continues to be a problem, resulting in Chimei Innolux failing certification to become an LCD supplier for Apple's next tablet.

CMI has cut into the supply chain of iPad 2, which uses IPS panels, but the new Apple tablet is more demanding in terms of resolution, the sources said. The iPad 3 will feature a 9.7-inch panel with resolution of 2,048x1,536 compared to the iPad 2's 1,024x768.
Chimei Innolux is presently believed to be a display supplier for the currently shipping iPad 2.

That's what I'm waiting for basically, Retina Display, and a really good photo editor to boot. I'd also like to see 128Gb storage.

I would imagine the sync would be too slow when not able to use WiFi to assist.

Why? GPS receivers have been around long before WIFI was even thought of.

When was the last time you solely used GPS to establish a lock? Takes a while. AGPS is much faster, nearly instantaneous. Generally cell towers are used, but WiFi SSID names stored in a database can work as well.

My experience with GPS is based upon it's use as a timing standard compared with LORAN-C based systems. The receivers I used tracked at least 6 GPS satellites at a time, so there was never any sort of issue with losing lock.
