Using 2 external monitors with a MacBook Pro...
#1
Anyone doing this?

Using a DualHead2Go?

Using a USB video adapter?

Some other solution?

Any problems? Recommended products? Tips and tricks?

...

I'd like to connect both a big DVI and a big VGA monitor to a MacBook Pro that has the Mini Displayport output.

These monitors do support the same resolution (which is a requirement of the DuelHead2Go) but the picture on the VGA monitor would be distorted at the 1920x1200 native rez of the DVI monitor (and I'm not gonna run my awesome 24-inch monitor at the lousy native rez of the VGA monitor).

Any suggestions as to an easy (and maybe cheap...?) solution to get both monitors up? At their native resolutions?

USB video to VGA sounds like the best solution.

What is the res of the VGA? Is it an LCD?

Nope. It's a good old fashioned 24-inch CRT that weighs upwards of 70 pounds and is not budging from my desk any time soon. As a CRT, it will run at many resolutions, but it optimally runs at 1280 x 1024.

...

I'm leaning towards USB adapters for the price and ability to run at whatever resolution I want, but I'm concerned about the compatibility (and future compatibility) of the drivers and about the responsiveness of the output when using a hub. (I'd have to use a hub. 'Just not enough ports on the MBP.)

The MBP pro has two native USB ports. Use one for a hub, one for the external monitor.

I'm just amazed that your 24" CRT is such a svelte 70#...

I've had 20's and 21's that were upwards of 90# (and others that were a bit lighter, but for 24", 70# is impressive)

My 24" CRT was 90lbs -- Sony GDM-FW900 -- but its native resolution was 1920 X 1200, not 1280 x 1024.

It's an Elite Spacesaver model with a shortened tube to fit on a 19-inch deep desk. I believe it is 74 pounds without the base.
