Oh, and while we're on the subject ... is there a way to bulk-download videos on YouTube, like someone's playlist?

I've routinely used keepvid.com, but it seems like it's no longer working even for single videos...

Seacrest came to the rescue the last time someone asked a question like this but it does not work on the CBS page. Neither does Real player, it just downloads the advertisement before the desired video.

PeterB:

First remove my asterisks.

I could open this in Quicktime 7: File -> Open URL... :

http:/*/mediasd.cbsnews.com/media/2010/01/26/es_ashton_126_1000.mp4

I have QT Pro but I couldn't save the actual movie, only a reference movie.

You can play a .flv file saved to your hard drive using VLC by first copying this URL in Safari's address bar:

http:/*/mediasd.cbsnews.com/media/2010/01/26/es_ashton_126_418.flv

hit Return, then it should open as text in a Safari window, give it time to download in the Safari window because the video is 6.7 MBs, then File -> Save. Don't allow Safari to add the .txt suffix when asked. (Kudos to Winston.) It should have a .flv suffix when saved. Play that file with VLC.

BTW, I went to the page you referenced, then I grabbed the above URL's from Safari -> Window -> Activity, then selecting all and copying the contents to TextEdit where I could more easily get the URL's.

Thanks Speedy, that worked like a charm...

Now I just found another video, same problem:

... I didn't see anything in the Activity window for this...

Nor did I. You may want to invest in something like Snapz Pro:
