Glossy Screen Epiphany
#1
I'm sitting here at work looking at a CRT with a *gasp* GLASS SCREEN!

Quite glossy it is, too! No anti-glare or anything...

Any reason to believe that the screen on the new MacBook would be any more difficult to read glare-wise than a plain ol' CRT? Which, BTW, I've not had problems with.

CRTs are multi-coated glass, which reduces glare and "glossiness". They are used indoors, where glare is lessened/controlled. CRTs, even flat screens, are slightly bowed, which again lessens reflections.

The glossy laptop screens I have seen are super-glossy, non-coated plastic, the worst of all worlds unless you put a monitor hood around it, much like a vaporizer hood.

How old, or what is the brand of that CRT? I haven't seen a no anti-glare coated CRT since the mid '90's. Some are just a light etching.
Turn that CRT toward any form of light and it will reflect everything if it doesn't have an anti-glare coating.

It's a Dell CRT. Flat screen glass.

Looking at the reflection of the office lights in it, there is some fuzziness to the reflection. Not completely mirror like.

But I have to really bend down to get the incident angle right to see the lights. At my normal angle, tere is no light reflected in it at all.

When folks have a bright source low and behind them (like a window) they have problems with CRTs, but I have that problme with TVs and my Pismo as well. TVs seem to be more mirror-like. With the Piz, it is not so much reflections as it is that the screen just washes out.

If you've never seen a glossy laptop LCD screen, you have no idea how annoying one can be.

It has anti-glare coating, nOSXtasy is absolutely correct.

My Presario has a high-gloss screen. I thought that I'd hate it, but it actually isn't too bad.
