Just saw a MacBook in person-Keyboard is NICE!!
#1
Local AppleStores have them, and are selling them, but they are not out on display since they need to have the drive imaged.

The new Keyboard is very nice--each key is encased/surrounded by the upper plastic case, unlike the typical pop up/pop in keyboard. It looked very nioce.

The new Battery is almost as long as the original clamshell battery, and almost as wide as recent iBooks. It is large enough that it should have very good battery life.

The feet on the bottom look much better--they are slightly higher. They are about the same diameter as a penny, and have rounded shoulders.

The white looks very good-the black looks smaller (illusion). The black looks very nice, but it makes you think of a windows laptop ie: ThinkPad

The gloss screen looked good, but the environment it is used in will be the true test. The person at the AppleStore mentione "gloss is the only screen type available for now". I am not sure--this may be in reference to the choices for the MBP of Matte and Gloss.

One switcher was buying one while I was there.

Overall--since it has screen spanning and is CareDuo I think it is a viable alternative to the MBP for most users.(shared vieo not withstanding)

This will be a hit!!

Haven't seen one in person but according to the specs, they sounds like fabulous deals.

I forgot to mention that there is no latch--the laptop stay closed and there is an indent to allow opening.

The person at the AS said it is a magnet that keeps it closed? I wonder if it is a spring hinge--I couldn't check that part out.

Just saw them at Emeryville.

I like the shiny white better than the matte black, kind of, but the glossy screen is a big let down.

The screen latch is indeed supposed to be magnetic.

Is the keyboard separate from the top case somehow? Would suck to have to replace the entire top section of the MacBook casing if one key went south.

Is the glossy screen on the MacBook any better than those junky Xbrite screens at handling glare?

Yes--I read somewhere that you will have to do that to replace a key, but maybe the keys are more secure now.

Don't think I like that keyboard -- reminds me too much of a 'chicklet' KB. It's the first keyboard I've seen in some time where the keycaps don't match the curvature of one's fingertips.
