Passport renewal ?? What I gotta do?
#1
"Somebody told me" I can't go abroad, can't use it unless it has at least 6-months left on it. Mine expires this summer. Not sure exactly when; it's not in front of me. I'd like to go to Germany for 4-6 weeks in about a month or so. Passport might expire before I get back if I don't renew first. Exact timeframe I go abroad isn't critical.

It's also on the site Janit linked:

If possible, you should renew your passport approximately nine (9) months before it expires. Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.

And Germany requires at least 90 days:

I read that in the last week or two, the application process got much harder.

Your local post office (in most cases, I'll bet) should be able to fix you up, if you go ASAP.

Just a reminder...

Travel to Mexico, the Bahamas and Canada now require a passport.
