I'm looking for a hook that will tighten over the mirror (without impeding the mirror function) to mount a camera toward the windshield. It's a p/s camera, and lightweight. I've seem some but I'm looking for one with a screw mount or similar.

...you may want to ensure the camera does not hang down below the mirror, obstructing any portion of the windshield.
Also, doing so (with anything, not just a camera) is illegal in some states.
And curiosity demands I ask-- what are you doing?
Particularly, how will you actuate the camera? Stills or video? Will this be for planned shooting or for something else?
I wonder because getting to the shutter release on most small cameras doesn't include RF options, or even a cable shutter release.

Yes, the video will be raw and must be edited for content. I mainly plan to upload some of it to Youtube, as a drive-around for some international folks I know. Not that I live in a scenic area, mind you, but close to some. It's also to use to gauge possible moto rides out in the rural areas.
I also do not want it to hang down, below the mirror. I hate distractions when I'm driving, plus it may be illegal, although there are lots of folks with E-Z passes and such at that point. Some of the gizmos I have seen hang too low as it's meant to cradle a GPS unit.

I would NOT attach anything significant to the mirror itself. You'll end up finding that the load limits on the glass adhesive were...exceeded. See if you can use available body screw points from sub shades or overhead lamps instead.

The mirror will transmit too much vibration and be awkward to mess with.
Unless you're subjecting it to a lot of gees or you want something permanent, just mount the camera on the front of the dash near the windshield with some well-worked Fun-Tak.
