Mine has started charging me $20 a month and additionally well over $100 per year. My eyes glaze over at the notice they sent me and I never get around to calling them about it. Has anyone gone through the process? Do you know if there are companies that don't require it? While we're at it, do you have the name of the company you use for when I start looking to change companies? Google is not working out so good.

don't know what you're talking about or what biz you're in but take a look at Square Up and see if that might work for you.

Edit: graylocks beat me to it.

Only glanced at the link, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but it seems aimed at merchants who store CC numbers, like in a database. Is that you, or do you merely run their card anew for each transaction? Can't imagine that say, every solprop that uses a Square dongle on his iPhone (let's say) has to pay this?

We had to deal with it a year ago. Basically our business management software, which already had us using a seperate password to access stored credit card data, said we needed to switch to their processing company and they would match rates and all CC data would be stored off site, so we would be able to charge cards, but not access any data. Bottom line is that we simply moved CC data storage to a custom field within their software so we can store what we need.

If you're storing CC #'s, you really shouldn't be a sole prop just for liability reasons.
