I Scream, You Scream.. We all Scream "Paletas"
#1
Summer is the perfect time for these frozen Hispanic wonders and I've just finished up a batch of various flavors to try and see what works.

These aren't the popcicles that your kiddies loved in the backyard. My flavors are for a slightly more adventurous palette.

My current flavors include:
Blueberry, basil and goat cheese
Strawberry, lime & ginger
Mango &lime with chili powder and a touch of cayanne
Gazpacho
Horchata with toasted coconut

I have a few other flavors to go in the near future such as Lemonade/Mint, and Sweet Potato Pie.

I'm also toying with Watermelon Salad but have not quite gotten the Feta Cheese figured out. Then there is a Sweet and Sour something, just can't decide what as frozen meat isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm open to other suggestions if you have any.

get a little too adventurous with that palette and you might have to substitute shingles for sticks.

Oh gosh, mouthwatering for sure. Not sure about adding feta to the watermelon--I'd think the dairy note would mute the fruit flavor. Although if the goat cheese works with the blueberry/basil, then it might be great. Watermelon, mint, cilantro, salt, and/or ... I don't know... green onion?

Have you thought about some sort of tamarind combination? That would be a delicious sweet-sour base.

On a stick?!

I have that gene that makes me hate cilantro, though.

Meanwhile, I'm going out for a 50-50 bar. Or a Jamba Juice Orange Dream.

In some areas, I'm just not that adventurous.

Sorry no pics.

And trust me - Watrmelon salad is much, much better than it sounds.

Cut up some watermelon, add some thin slices of red onion, some black olives, mint and sprinkle it with feta cheese. I know it sounds odd, I thought the same until I tried it. Every blends really well.

The blueberry recipe is actually a pie that I adapted by pureeing about 2/3's of the filling and adding a bit more liquid before freezing.

I was thinking Tamerindo as well, just have not located a nearby source. Also considering Mamay, along with other fruits I could get fresh.

I thought garlic ice cream on cantaloupe sounded pretty strange until I tried it at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
