So you've all seen Neil Young's Heart of Gold (DVD - 2006) right?

Just watched it again - astonishingly good

First performance after after very dangerous brain surgery. The choice of songs, the collection of musicians are a clearly sings of a guy looking back on his life and reflecting. All of the musicians poor their hearts out in this performance in Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. No expense was spared - horn sections, choir singing backup when required - even sweeping with a mic'ed up broom for effect.

This isn't the rock n roll Neil, it's the Canadian country bumpkin Neil at his very, very best.

Looks like it's out of print - pick it up while it's still plentiful...

Directed by Jonathan Demme (Stop Making Sense, The Silence of the Lambs)

I have not seen it, but would like to. I developed a true fondness for Neil in the last couple of years. I always liked him, but now I listen to him at least weekly.

There is a Video with Eddie Vedder, and Neil Young (maybe Pearl Jam), and you can see what a good time they had with Neil and how in awe of him everyone is.

It's very good. Get it on a Netflix free 2 week trial if you don't want to spend bucks on it.

Demme's directed two more concert films for Neil which should come out in the next year.

One of Neil's best, most overlooked songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmaCQ4-2T5I

5 stars.

I'm sure Neil was honored to perform with Eddie as well.
