Just watched it again - astonishingly good
First performance after after very dangerous brain surgery. The choice of songs, the collection of musicians are a clearly sings of a guy looking back on his life and reflecting. All of the musicians poor their hearts out in this performance in Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. No expense was spared - horn sections, choir singing backup when required - even sweeping with a mic'ed up broom for effect.
This isn't the rock n roll Neil, it's the Canadian country bumpkin Neil at his very, very best.
Looks like it's out of print - pick it up while it's still plentiful...
Directed by Jonathan Demme (Stop Making Sense, The Silence of the Lambs)
