I often mix it with olive oil and/ or butter. I use it quite a bit in country/southern/soul food.

WHiiP, that is similar to the one my mom used. Hers had a black (bakelite?) knob on the lid.

I still use a vintage grease catcher, I've had it for years. Mine is also aluminum with the black knob on the top and the strainer insert.
