Issues on new iMac

OK so already I have some issues. I migrated the old machine over and that seemed fine and then I updated with the 10.6.8 combo. I tried to switch the desktop to medium gray solid color but it won't go nor will any other-it stays on the Aurora. Moved the dock to the left side but when I restarted it went back to the bottom. I also can't program right-click into the mouse.
I restarted once then shut it down and let it sit for awhile. Any ideas?

Reformat the hard drive and start from scratch. Set the preferences the way you want them, setup your email accounts, and reinstall all your programs. Make sure to download the newest versions of all the applications and run software updates on anything that came on CD.

Try reinstalling the 10.6.8-1.1 combo update.
