"Cold hard cash. It's good everywhere you go, right? You can use it to pay for anything.

But that's not the case here in Louisiana now. It's a law that was passed during this year's busy legislative session.

House bill 195 basically says those who buy and sell second hand goods cannot use cash to make those transactions, and it flew so far under the radar most businesses don't even know about it."

Say WHAT ? So In Louisiana, those bank notes are NOT valid for "all Debts, Public or Private" ?

Talk about a state legislature over-reaching the bounds of sanity ! Oh sure, create rules that require ID when selling used stuff to a store, pawn, etc... Ohio did that for scrap dealers to try to reduce the incidence of cars and houses being stripped for metals. But "no Cash at All " ? Woah....

Purchasing something is not a debt. Contrary to popular belief, a retailer does not have to accept something just because it says Legal Tender on it.

However, regardless of lack of relevance of the Legal Tender thing -- when it is working the other way around, I don't see how the state can tell retailers that they cannot use cash to conduct their business. I think this will die in the courts.

So do I. But the ability of the Louisiana lawmakers to get this bill passed is almost as amazing as Alabama's immigration law.

I'm glad that there's a federal government to oversee the idiot states that make up this great nation.

don't forget your Visa card, because they don't take American Express.

I don't see how this law doesn't lead to massive civil disobedience (and not just of the kind billb "alludes" to).

This may be a prelude to Louisiana going back to the good old days; printing it's own script.
