I still remember watching that show (a year or so delayed) with a bunch of fellow students at Oxford. After one of the really extreme episodes (I want to say when Laura's father brutally killed her look-alike cousin) there being complete silence in the room as the show ended. I looked around and finally said, "It's just a TV show, you know... America isn't really like that. Well, mostly."

Not sure to this day if any of the Brit kids believed me...

Loved that show. Really hasn't been anything quite like it since, though many have tried....

At the time I had no idea I'd end up living in Washington - Twin Peaks made it seem like a pretty spooky place. I found out that's only partly true...
