I went ahead and ordered the Oscar Schmidt OS21C, based on reviews. I found it for $222 and change from Grizzly Entertainment in Cal.

All I know is that I always thought of it as an old lady instrument (due to those grade school teachers).

And was blown away when I realized that John Sebastian had rigged up an electric one. I was listening to "Do You Believe in Magic?" for the hundreth time on the crappy AM car radio of the day... and it struck me that those opening chords were done with an autoharp!
