home theater on a beer budget
#11
supposedly you can buy ( I've read this but not done it) black-out cloth meant for room darkening that is white on one side. sounds like a good option but not as cheap as a white sheet. I'm going to try it one day. my local sew shop has some in stock; they sell it by the yard.

I purchased the "black out cloth" off ebay like 5 years ago and stretched it around my own wood frame. It was cheaper than a pull-down and is still going strong. I've got a 90" diagonal screen with the Optoma HD20 projector - love it!

If you need sound insulation, look up Owens Corning 703. It's what they sometimes use in recording studios. You'll probably need to get a contractor order it for you if you can't find it at a store.

Surely there are a couple cheap couches on craigslist. Easier for old men to get out of after (or before) a few beers. Store on-end or rig a couple pulleys and hoist 'em up to the ceiling when not in use.

ATS claims they have some that's functionally equivalent. A little lighter in color and softer, http://www.atsacoustics.com/item--ATS-Ac...--AB2.html (They also sell 703.)

"rig a couple pulleys and hoist 'em up to the ceiling when not in use."
