Just got a robo call from the police dept - have amber alerts gone too far?

Just got a robo call from the police - they are looking for a bad guy and wanted to know if I had seen him...

I'm generally not happy about ANY call that is unsolicited. I found this call to be annoying, but perhaps I wouldn't if they were looking for a kid in my area (an actual Amber alert). This call that I got said the bad guy was last seen about 15 miles from where I live. Don't know what they want him for - didn't hang around to find out. I've been inside all day - no chance that I've seen ANY wanted criminals today...

That's actually great. My impression has been that the police are very slow to embrace available technology to increase their effectiveness, especially considering the need to compensate for ever-growing staffing shortages (down by >1/3 here in Chicago.)

Why is it your responsibility to catch criminals?

Isn't that the job of the police? Or the UPS guy?

Good point, I didn't think about that. Next you'll be getting calls telling you to take your own garbage to the dump, and alerting you there's a gas leak out at the street they need you to fix.

I heard Cresent City did robo calls to residents to warn of the tsunami evacuation warning after the japanese quake. I've got NO problem with THAT obviously... that's is entirely different.

I get amber alerts and I think it is good. I do not object to this kind of intrusion.
