Honda Pilot or equivalent ? 6 passengers will fit in a large SUV type quite comfortably.

Micro,

Save yourself some agita and get yourself a minivan. That's what my wife and I did in San Francisco in May. We used it to visit Napa with my brother, niece and nephew. Much easier than two cars and/or an SUV.

I don't know what kind of prices they charge in HI but you should be able to rent a minivan for about $90 per day. The price should drop considerably if you do a weekly rental. Also, always look for discount codes. If you're a member of AAA, make sure to use it to get a deeper discount. If you're not a member of AAA, become a member of Allied Business Network at because member become eligible for discounted car rentals.

(I recommend _everyone_ get a free membership with Allied Business Network. You can save lots of $$$ as a result)

Now, to make things even more confusing, you can also see how you do if you get the rental via your credit card web site. For example, if you have a Discover card, jump over to Shop Discover. You can get discounted car rentals _and_ deeper cashback bonuses, too.

And, to confuse you even more, shop around for the rental. Different locations have different rates. A rental done at the Airport might cost more or less than a rental from the same company but at a local location.

Have you looked at Harper's? harpershawaii.com

I've used them before for specialty rentals, i.e. off road vehicles and up to the summit of Mauna Kea.

Don't know what dates you need but they might be able to accommodate you at a good price.

Called the Harpers, seemed nice enough.

No Vans avalable for that time period. OH, and if we wanted two cars, they have none available for that time period as well.

Not any idea of what the daily or weekly rate would have been, since its "based on availability"....

Oh well, thanks,, will keep trying.

Review the Total
Weekly rate
1 week(s) @ $1,169.17 $1,169.17
1 extra day(s) @ $167.02 $167.02

Subtotal $1,336.19
Taxes and Fees $273.74

Total due at rental counter : $1,609.93

And this is going thru the Southern Cal Auto Club website.

Brought too many people.

Try Priceline. Put in a bid of $$80-90 a day (or less) and see what happens. It looks like the quote you got is $167 per day. I've had good luck with my last two rentals (Big Island and San Jose) using priceline and bidding low. On the Big Island I got a standard size for 1/2 the cost a Hertz rental with AARP rates would have been. Ended up with Hertz anyway (through Priceline).
