Thanks all.

I updated my laptop to 10.6 and checked the App Store purchases and Lion showed up so I am now downloading. For future use, I will make a bootable copy of the download.

Great news!

I have used the following utility to make a bootable USB installer:

Is there a version for ML?

I will say this, my gut reaction now is to make sure I keep local copies of ANY software installers I download. I'm using an older smaller capacity laptop hard drive (from an ssd replacement) with a large number of partitions to make it easy.

Yep, the same utility referenced above will make either a Lion or ML USB installer. Just make sure you make the USB installer before installing ML or Lion since the installation program will be deleted as part of the installation.

I have the apple thumb drive of Lion I purchased last spring. Will a copy of that be bootable if copied to another thumb drive? or should I made a disk copy to boot from that?
