I installed the 256 GB Crucial SSD on my late 2009 Mac Mini. Worth every penny and I hope to get another 5 years (or more) out of my Mini. The occurrences of spinning beach balls has been greatly reduced.

You should rarely-to-never have seen the SBOD even before the SSD installation. Do some investigation/troubleshooting and you'll never see one again...

Ok, I'm sold... Shopping for a 256 GB SSD for my early 2008 MBP ... I'll double the memory from 4GB to 8GB as well.

Figure there is no way I can replace this laptop for $150-$250 anyhow.

I have this 256GB Crucial m4 (listed at $199.99) my 2007 MBP, has been good so far.

Sorry, but I don't think you're on the same page here. He's not talking about "death" but the same frequent spinning beach balls I saw on my 2009 Mini and my 2010 iMac before the SSDs. There's something f'd up in the way Virtual Memory works from late Snow Leopard on that's particularly potent when booted from a HDD.
If you followed this forum you'd see we had a steady stream of people with fairly new macs starting threads about frequent spinning beachballs starting early autumn of 2011.

Not to spoil your upgrade fun, but the extra RAM is not going to make a noticeable difference on top of the SSD.

Sorry, I was referring to the beachball in general, not the "terminal" one. Thanks for the info re: Snow Leopard.
