OT - any other Sears Shop Your Way Rewards members here? How does Sears make any money off us?
#1
It seems like every other week, Sears gives me a $5 or $7 Rewards credit, which can be used on anything, with no minimum purchase necessary - so of course I've been stocking up the toolbox with stuff I'd been planning to get anyways - multimeter, torque wrench, screwdrivers, sockets, etc - all at anywhere from 30%-75% off, after taking the credit into account.

Either lots of other people spend alot more $ than I do when using up their credit, or Craftsman tools really don't cost all that much to manufacture...

Sorry - just rambling - I've been spoiled by the IntarWeb and can't envision paying full price on things anymore...

I've heard that a lot of Craftsman tools are now made in China.

That's been the case for years. And Mexico. And a few in the US. Or elsewhere.

Sears and KMart ate each other. The resultant snake swallowing a snake is not doing well.

Sears is desperate to get people into its stores. This is one way. I will miss Sears when it goes away in a few years.

It better not. I have thousands and thousands of dollars in tools with lifetime warranties.

You have old tools with lifetime warranty the ones they replace them with do not.
People were breaking the old yellow tape measures so fast thru just abuse that they were replaced with a red case one that has a very limited warranty. If you ever work for sears log in to warehouse inventory and you can see the markup the goods they sell. The base refer they sell for around 400 dollars costs them about 270 the fancy door SS costs around 370 and gets sold for 750 to a 1000.

well, I just signed up. I used a disposable email. This info is optional, but too much for a shopping site.

Not everything... Most are still honored. I took in a Craftsman garden rake and walked out with a new one a month ago. And chisels ? I was working on a hard steel part and have gone through three sets of craftsman chisels. Each set splinters after a while, I take it back, they hand me another. No comment at all.

Yes, many tool companies offer 'lifetime warranty'. But I don't have to mail Sears stuff in, or have a receipt, or any of that 'warranty denier' stuff.

The company is poorly managed.

And,,, FWIW, retail markup has to be ginormous. They have huge physical costs, personnel costs, and legacy costs.

Kobalt tools, sold by Lowe's, are advertised as having a warranty for life and I seem to find more Lowe's stores than Sears.
