I just realized that my MacBook Pro (mid-2010) uses the microphone on my headphones as input when they are plugged in (for Skype, for instance). I thought this would be a good thing, until I did some testing and realized that the MacBook built-in microphone is better than the crappy one on my headphones.
So, I'd like to use the headphones for listening on Skype, but the Mac's built-in microphone. It doesn't seem possible, as the "Internal microphone / Built-in Microphone" setting gets replaced with "External microphone / Built-in Microphone" when I plug them in.
I guess the solution would be to buy a headphones-only set of headphones, but I'm curious if there is a way to override the setting when the mic/headphone combo is plugged in. Cheers!
