In for one pair. I know they are fugly, but if they are as comfortable as people say, I can live with hiw they look. I ordered the N, since the sizing said that it was A-B width, so I hope they fit properly. $34 is a really good price.

dmann is correct. Once you get them broke-in to your feet you'll love them but it does take a while. I had
plantar fasciitis pretty bad once and got rid of it by wearing night splints for almost 3 years and keep it in
control with off the shelf orthotics, no bare foot walking and I wear my Birkenstocks as much as possible.
The first pair I bought were std. hard footbed and the last pair I bought have the soft footbed. I think
the hard footbed gives you better support.

I have been wearing some Earth Shoes that I really like, but they are sandals and I need to wear something with closed toes as the weather gets cooler. My daughter had a pair of Birkenstocks a long time ago, but I have never had any. I have a high arch and need really good support, so I hope these fit and I can make it through the break in period.
At least Amazon has free returns, if they don't fit, but I really hope the do.

Birkenstocks are terrific shoes if you have the right kind of foot for them (A or AA will find even the narrow width too wide). I was developing the early signs of plantar fasciitis and just happened to start wearing Birkenstock sandals at that time. It was only six months later that I realized the nature of the pain I was having, and that the Birks had fixed it.
They even make some lines that are funky in an artistic way (rather than the broken-down refugee-from-the-sixties way). I particularly like the Papillio line and have several Papillio Boston clogs with interesting colorful patterns on them. The Footprints line also has lots of shoes that are suitable for business wear -- nothing suitable for fancy evening wear though, unless you tend to mingle with the high-heeled sneaker crowd.
Wear them in good health!

For breaking in - I find that getting the footbeds wet and wearing them helps a LOT - you may have to repeat a time or two

I have about 10 pairs in different colors and designs, they are ugly but I have a very high arch and they are the most comfortable shoes I've found. I started wearing them when I had plantar fasciitis and I think thats what cured it. There is a breaking in period but once they're broken in they extremely comfortable.
