Bummer! No case?

Nope. The case I wanted wasn't available initially and I hadn't gotten around to ordering it. Though it is such a minimal case I'm not sure it would have helped from that height, but my iPhone 4 survived a few drops from lower height in it (InCase Snap Case).

so much for the Gorilla Glass 2.

FWIW, I broke my Moto with Gorilla Glass this weekend, too, after two months.

and... my Chinese branded POS (regular old glass) is still going strong after multiple drops

A student at my wifes high school came to class in tears earlier this week. Apparently he drove off with is brand new (got it last weekend for his birthday) iphone 5 on the roof of his car. It was run over multiple times by the time he found the remains.

Update: Got a replacement in store ($49 AC+ deductible). I'd read that they have the ability to replace the display in store, and maybe they do, but it's probably easier to give me a replacement, then refurb my phone to use as a future replacement.
